The Sales Representative

The most basic level of how MLM works is the sales representative. They are the front-line of an MLM company and it is their job to sell a good or service. Also known as compensation plans, commission is the main way that MLM companies pay a distributor. Although they look complicated at first, they are easy enough to figure out. Each compensation plan is designed to boost profitability for the distributor and for the MLM company.

The first type of commission is called a retail commission. This is money earned for the original sale. Since new distributors can have problems learning to sell a product, MLM companies provide their recruiter with a compensation for training them. Since more products are sold when someone is well-trained, it provides an economic incentive for the recruiter to teach the new distributor the tools of the trade.

At the next level, the MLM company rewards distributors who either become or find leaders. Any business requires strong leaders to increase sales and market a product. Once the leader is located, the company rewards the leader with additional income or pays the person who found the new leader.

As someone finds new leaders, new income sources and commission become available. The biggest issue with creating a compensation plan is finding a balance. An MLM company has to pay enough money to encourage sales, but not so much that it becomes bankrupt. To balance these two goals, an MLM company will typically make a compensation plan that can be hard to reach by anyone who is not committed to increasing their performance.

Most of the MLM compensation plans are still easy enough to achieve as long as the distributor approaches it with a motivated attitude. For individuals who are dedicated to creating results, it is possible to create a full-time stable income from an MLM company. It is even possible to garner large amounts of wealth if the individual has a strong enough work ethic.

How MLM works today is far different than it was in the past. Sales representatives can now go online to recruit new individuals and find leads. These leads are typically better quality than a warm market because the people who search for them are interested in learning about multi-level marketing. Due to this, the leads are more likely to sign on as MLM distrubitors and buy products.
